While my kids are not heading to a dorm room this year I know I have some parents out there whose children are. Wow! They were not kidding about this parenting thing moving faster than a blink of an eye.

This summer I was so happy to spend a little time with two of my long time friends. We have a friendship that does not miss a beat! It’s like we never left each others side and we still totally and completely understand each other. Sometimes without saying a word. The true definition of soul mates. Almost 40 years strong.

My friends amazing daughter is going off to college. I mean crazy town! I remember coming home to meet her little bundle of joy and now she’s off to college. Eighteen years; just like that!

I mean…I’m sure her room will be way cooler than this but let’s try. I know her mother and I did not have a cool place. Hand-me-downs galore. Don’t even get me started on her obnoxious orange pig ovenmit.

The stunning Belle Mead Retreat in the heart of Franklin for House of Hope TN was designed by Chad James Group. The firm joined  a group of interior designers  to participate in a show house that benefits children’s charities in the area. The firm designed the powder room and foyer.

Design Details

The powder room was reminiscent of a jewel box with a lowered ceiling and dark walls in Belle Meade Green” – homage to the historic Nashville color. The walls have a decorative finish in a contrasting color creating scalloped wainscoting panels with three dimensional styled egg and dart crown molding. The foyer was a nod to Chad’s European travels. The custom balusters are designed to have a unique connection between positive and negative space and are inspired by a New England primitive style table. The flat sawn spindles gave 1800’s character to the modern farmhouse. The entryway commode highlights under tones of masculinity.

Meryl Alcabes of Sleepers In Seattle shared with us her chat with the talented Jon Rosichelli of Rosichelli Designs. We’re sharing a few highlights but be sure to see the full interview here.

“I heard how Jon got started in the home staging business with Jan Sewell, some 20 years ago. Jan was the first person to do retail staging in the Seattle area. They would empty her house and fill it up again to practice. Jon explained, “there is great design everywhere you look—it wasn’t hard to find great elements to use.” They shopped at Goowill, but also raided TJ Maxx and Target. “They knock off from the best people.”

“We talked about Jon’s preferences when dealing in vintage home decor elements. “I love being able to find humble items and elevating them. There is a certain beauty in simple things. I love patina and I love wear and tear.” Well, Jon, let me tell you—you’d LOVE my house. It’s a shrine to wear and tear after my three boys and their friends have occupied it for nearly three decades.”
