Master Bedroom Closet Organization {Part 2: Jewelry}

This is an area I was unable to purge as much as I should have.

  •  Unfortunately I don’t have forms for all of my statement jewelry. However, I wouldn’t have the space even if I did.  I use hooks for the lighter pieces and anything heavier I’ve placed in the flat jewelry displays shown below.  The plastic bins are used for bracelets, rings and other random jewelry.
  • Being a Stella and Dot stylist I purchased the showcase boxes (shown in picture 2) which makes it very convenient to store your jewelry, especially the coordinating pieces.
  • The bird dish from Pottery Barn is where I keep all of the jewelry I wear regularly like my watch, a favorite ring and bracelet. Yes, I do wear that orange bracelet nearly every day.
  • For my longer necklaces I have used the hooks again. This keeps them from turning into a tangled mess.
  • I’ve gently rolled each of the scarves and placed them in this container purchased from Target.

Later today I’ll be posting about the bags and shoes.

Master Bedroom Closet Organization {Part 1}

The last thing that is on my mind when cleaning my house is my closet but let me just tell you. Big mistake. I found things that I didn’t even know I still had because it’s kind of turned into the dumping grounds for everything I own. There were numerous shoes that I had long forgotten about. Cute scarves that haven’t seen the light of day for at least two years. Not to mention the overall chaos of my filing system. It never used to be this way….until I had kids. Yes, we blame our little angels for everything, don’t we? But it is true. My closet used to be a place I enjoyed going to each day…not anymore. So I made the leap and dug right in.

I started out by taking all of my accessories and bags out of the closet and onto the bed. I got rid of the items I no longer used and organized the ones I will in the way that I would return them to the closet.

Now for the shoes. I’m beginning to think there may be something to that whole place your shoes in a clear box so you remember what they look like. I thought I was being organized by keeping the boxes they came in. But really, not so much. Out of sight out of mind. Again I took them all out of their boxes and lined them up getting rid of the shoes I don’t plan to wear again. This was tough because that nagging voice kept saying…”well maybe you will”.
Bye, Bye Boxes that have cluttered up my closet!

So now that the accessories, bags and shoes are under control I will be posting part II tomorrow for clothes and putting everything back in its place. Wow! What a difference is all I can say. Please come back to tomorrow and check it out!

Walk in Closet

Walk in Closet

Living in Hawaii, I’ve sacrificed certain things for my home due to small spaces. At the moment my walk in closet also serves as our laundry room.  Yes you read right. Overall this hasn’t really been a bad thing and in theory it’s not such a bad idea, unless you haven’t gotten around to washing those ten loads of laundry that have just devoured your closet space (don’t judge, I’m a busy girl). I decided it’s time to style it up a little since it is a dual space. If there is a nice rug on the floor I’m less likely to allow piles of laundry to cover it ;) Above are a few things I’ll be adding. I am so crushing on the Urban Outfitters rug!

I first saw the Urban Outfitters rug on I Heart Organizing blog’s home tour.  I have spent months swooning over her laundry room as well as all of her fantastic organizing ideas. She was featured on HGTV’s Clean Freak last night.  How cool is that?? Unfortunately I saw her post a day late as I was attaching the link for you all to check out. I suspect we will see a blog post on the details soon. Very exciting!
